Hailing from Kingston, Jamaica, 31 year old Mavado is easily one of the more popular reggae artists out at the moment. Starting his obsession with music at a young age when his grandmother would take him to church to sing, Mavado quickly caught the eye of his childhood idol, Bounty Killer, another reggae artist from Kingston, Jamaica. Bounty Killer ultimately took Mavado under his wing and mentored him. Beyond his wildest dreams, Bounty Killer eventually founded “The Alliance”, a dancehall collective, with Mavado as well as Angel Doolas, Elephant Man and Vybz Kartel in 2003. Mavado has gone on to collaborate with the likes of Jay-Z, Ludacris, Fabolous, Ace Hood, Snoop Dogg (sorry Snoop…doesn’t feel right saying Snoop Lion) and Wyclef. Mavado’s song “Real McKoy” even made it into the hit game Grand Theft Auto IV and, in the same year, received the UK MOBO Award for Best Reggae Act. In 2011 Mavado announced that he had signed with DJ Khaled’s record label and released two singles.
On Saturday, October 12th, Mavado will be hosting a special edition of We Own The Night Saturdays at Cameo Nightclub in Miami Beach. Handling the music side of things will be DJ’s Affect, Bulletproof, Fergie and Springer. Dress code is enforced at this 21+ event that is taking place during Miami Carnival Weekend, so be well rested and ready to party. Tickets are a modest $30 and can be purchased by [CLICKING HERE].
