Nicky Romero at Mansion Miami September 4th

Mansion Miami: At just 26 years old, Nicky Romero doesn’t quite fall into the “young” category of dance music DJ’s, yet he doesn’t fall within the “seasoned veteran” group either. Now mind you we’re not referencing skill set, just age. He’s on the threshold of becoming a seasoned veteran, but he’s not quite there yet. But for 26, his list of accomplishments is quite long…

Best known for his 2012 hit “Toulouse,” which garnered the young Romero praise from the now almost music-less MTV TV station which dubbed him “EDM Arist to Watch in 2012”, it wasn’t always an easy road for the up and coming DJ. Romero admits school wasn’t his strong suit so, being musically inclined, music was a natural pivot for him to make. It started with the drums and, by the time he was 15 or so, he had his eyes on the turntables. Before his Beatport hit “Toulouse,” Romero had been signed to Once Records where he released “Privilege,” “Qwerty” and “Funktion One” with the latter being picked up by DJ and producer Madskillz for his label Azucar. Pepper in a few remixes and that had about summed up Nicky’s professional life. All that changed once “Toulouse” was released.

After the release of “Toulouse” Romero stole the #17 spot on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJ’s poll, the highest position for a new entry. Then a rapid succession of hits with Avicii and Krewella, both of which landed #1 on Beatports Top 100 (“I Could Be the One” and “Legacy”) helped bolster his profile. In his breakout year he also held a residency on the world famous island of Ibiza with fellow DJ and producer David Guetta.

Now with a large number of #1 hits and his Protocol Recordings record label, it’s safe to say that Romero is here to stay. (He even has his own video game geared at getting him votes for the DJ Mag Top 100 list for 2015 and our friends over at YourEDM.com say it’s actually quite addicting.) On Friday, September 4th Nicky Romero will be performing live at Mansion Miami.
