Brass Knuckles at Mansion Nightclub September 19th
Mansion Nightclub: Fist it was Danny D’Brito and Tony Livadas. Then 2009 brought them Anthony Pisano. This trio is better known by their stage name – Brass Knuckles. Which is not to be confused with the literal brass knuckles people have used as a weapon for quite a long time, although their music is a weapon in and of itself.
“We don’t look at ourselves like a DJ group, We look at this as a band” says Danny D’Brito of Brass Knuckles. Which is an interesting way of looking at things because most DJ’s (I’m assuming here) would probably relate themselves more to a duo/trio or a dj/producer combo rather than a “band”. But when you really look at it with an unbiased point of view, the argument could very well be made that they are in fact a band. After all Livadas does play the guitar during most (if not all) of their live sets. But nonetheless, we don’t care what anyone considers themselves when they’re putting out tracks like “Crack”, “Hurricane” and “Bad Habbits”, which are songs damn near everyone has gotten down to in clubs across the globe at some point or another.
With elements of Rock n’ Roll along combined with the traditional house sound, the Brass Knuckles tapped into a niche that people didn’t even realize they wanted – and they haven’t disappointed. Now you see DJ’s like Avicii weave elements of country into his song “Wake Me Up” with Aloe Blacc (which we are absolutely NOT a fan of) and other DJ’s doing cross-genre songs while the Brass Knuckles have been doing it since 2009 when they linked up with Pisano. Now we’re not saying they were the first, and they certainly won’t be the last, but they are original – which seems to occur less and less in today’s fast paced environments.
Plus we also have a soft spot for the Brass Knuckles because they do call Miami home (got to represent talent from our own backyard). And speaking of which, before heading off on the Asian leg of their 2014 tour, the Brass Knuckles will be performing at Mansion Nightclub on Friday, September 19th!
