Labor Day Weekend 2014 Miami: Rebecca Scheja and Fiona Fitzpatrick, better known simply as Rebecca & Fiona, are a DJ duo hailing from Sweden. Sweden has given us Pippi Longstocking, the worlds second largest clothing retailer H & M, our beloved IKEA and now Rebecca & Fiona? Seems like Sweden keeps moving up in the world!
Although Rebecca & Fiona just released their debut album back in 2011 (2012 in the U.S.) titled I Love You, Man! (which has nothing to do with the movie), they have known each other for over 6 years, having met in their hometown of Stockholm, Sweden. Some people just “click” and, according to Rebecca & Fiona, that’s what happened to them.
They transformed promoting for various clubs and events around Stockholm into making music of their own which, in my eyes, makes them legit. Their music may not be your style, but the same could be said about Tiesto, Aoki, Afrojack and any of the other mainstream artists flooding the genre today. The point being: you can’t deny their work ethic. They, as Drake’s song famously stated, “Started from the bottom now we’re here!
When asked about their music and their style, Rebecca stated: “We’ve always been just producing what comes out of us. We just do what we feel is great. We never look for what other people want or what we should do. It’s completely us. We develop it together. We have never sat down and talked about what we should make, or what would be good for us to make.” That, to me, is what gives them a leg up on their counterparts. They’re spontaneous. And spontaneous can equal dangerous in the ever evolving world of dance music.
Currently on a worldwide tour, on Saturday, August 30th Rebecca & Fiona will be at Mansion Nightclub celebrating Labor Day Weekend 2014 Miami style! And having just released their 2nd studio album, Beauty Is Pain a few months back, expect to hear some new (or remixed) tracks from the duo.
