CW: Where can people learn more about you and your music?
My official website www.amybarbera.com features not only samples of my original music, but it also features some recent magazine, radio and TV interviews where I really open up and share my heart and my life as well.
CW: How did you get started in music?
I have the passion for music in my bones and in my family history so I think that is where my musical gifts come from. When I was in elementary school, the school put on a big talent show and I entered the contest. I dressed up in a cute little dress and used some fun props and performed the song “My Favorite Things” from the movie The Sound of Music. I ended up and that really boosted my self-esteem. From that point on I knew that I wanted to be a singer when I grew up.
CW: What genre does your music fall into?
I have written songs in many different styles. Here are some of the genres it would fall into: Adult Contemporary, Inspirational, Pop, Easy Listening, New Age, World Music and even Dance Music.
CW: What message do you want to send in your music?
My message is God’s love, hope, peace, joy, healing and grace. I am passionate about creating music that touches the lives of others and brings them encouragement. I love inspiring and uplifting people to love, to hope and to dream big.
CW: If someone is interested in hiring you to sing at a special event what is the
best way to contact you?
The best way to contact me is through my email at amybarbera711@aol.com or by messaging me on my official Facebook page www.facebook.com/amybarberafanpage.
CW: When did you write your first song and what inspired you?
In 1998 I recorded my very first original song, titled “Flowers In My Garden”. I was inspired by my own personal pain and life experiences to bring hope to others. Since then I have written over 20 original songs.
CW: Do fashion and music compliment each other?
Yes, they do for sure! I love fashion and as an artist I love making a statement with the clothes that I wear. Many music artists from the past and of today have set many of the fashion trends. Artists such as Michael Jackson, Madonna, Lady Gaga, & many hip hop artists have inspired the fashion industry. Also many music artists have started their own successful fashion lines.
CW: Describe your fashion style when performing. How do you plan your look?
I am a huge vintage/consignment shopper so usually when I am planning for a music photo shoot or music performance I search for something that is very unique and that will match with the image or event that I am doing at the time.
CW: How many albums have you released? Which one has been your favorite?
In June of 2008 I released my original thirteen song debut album “Beautiful Flower of Life.” and currently I am busy working on my second album “Paint Me A Rainbow” that will be released in early 2014. Over the years I have also released many digital download singles which include some of my dance remixes, Christmas songs and more. I have to say my favorite song from my “Beautiful Flower of Life” album is my beautiful song “Make Me A Butterfly”.
CW: Country you would like to visit?
I am of Italian (Sicilian) descent so I would love to visit Italy and see where my ancestors came from.
CW: Do you do any volunteer work?
Wow, that is a great question… for me I would not call it volunteer work but more ministry work. Since I am an inspirational artist I love to make a difference and bring hope to others through ministry and spreading the love of Jesus to the world. Over the years I have traveled into many children’s hospitals and schools to perform my heartfelt song “God’s Special Angel” to bring hope and healing to the children. My song “God’s Special Angel” is on my album “Beautiful Flower of Life” and is a song that I wrote for special needs and sick children. Some of the places I visited over the years are Misercordia Children’s Home in Chicago, Shriner’s Children’s Burn Hospital in Galveston, Texas, Shriner’s Childrens Hospital in Tampa, Florida, Miami Children’s Hospital, Light House School of the Blind, Ann Stork Center & God’s Little Acres just to name a few. Not only do I love to sing for the children but I also love to bring special gifts such as teddy bears, balloons, arts & crafts and more to make them smile.
CW: Any awards or major accomplishments?
Just this past February I was nominated as one of the top 5 artists in the categories best singer/songwriter and best pop artist at the “Artists In Music Awards” in Los Angeles, CA. This year I was so touched to be chosen as “Favorite Inspirational Artist” for the prestigious “The Betty Awards” in California. In 2012 Jonathan “JDOGG” Lederman & The American Cancer Society presented me with a special “Spiritual Entrepreneurs Visionary Award” for outstanding dedication to help other people excel through inspiring and empowering practices. In 2007 I received a “Humanitarian Award” from the St. Anne’s Holy Name Society “Patch Awards” In New Jersey for “Project Amy-God’s Special Angel.”
CW: What is next for Amy Barbera?
I am very busy working on my second album that will be titled “Paint Me A Rainbow.” I have several TV and radio interviews lined up in Los Angeles, CA this month. I am also really excited because I am working on my very first professional music video for my song “Make Me A Butterfly” with a photographer/video producer, Zander Brant. Production for the video will begin in September of 2013. New doors and opportunities are opening up for me daily so who knows what is next! God is just amazing; He keeps opening these awesome doors for my career including interviewing with you TheLocalMiami.com and Candy Woolley Accessories.
