At a time of the year where the conversation seems to only be related to politics and budget cuts, it’s a refreshing change of pace to hear about events that are all about giving back – and that’s exactly what this events main priority is.
Lila Nikole, alongside her friend and business partner, Aisha Thalia (who happens to also be an actress and activist,) have teamed up with LMNT Art Gallery to put together ‘Fusion,’ a fashion and art show who’s main goal is to give back to youth centers and charities that help underprivileged at risk youth in the greater Miami-Dade area – and what better time of the year to host such an enormous fashion, art and charity event than during Art Basel 2012!?
On Thursday, December 6th from 8pm to midnight this “mash-up” fundraiser that is comprised of fashion, fashion shows, music, live performances, photography and other mixed media art outlets will take place at LMNT and is poised to be one of the most talked about events in South Florida and with the star power this event is attracting, we don’t doubt that for one second.
The fashion show will showcase designs from Art of Shade, Lisu Vega and the Art Institute – ranging from Art of Shade’s hip fashions that are composed of recycled materials to Lisu Vega’s high fashion designs that were featured in 2012’s Miami Beach International Fashion Week.
The event will also be chock full of celebrities who understand and support the idea of preserving the arts – visual and spoken alike. Internationally known recording artist Talib Kweli, who is also known for his affiliation with fellow artist and activist Mos Def, will be in attendance and will also be performing. Urban Mystik and Kulture Shock will also be performing at the event with DJ’s Epps, Rob Dinero and Bonnie Beats.
Aside from the artists performing we mentioned above, there will also be other celebrities attending the event including Miami native broadcasting legend Lorenzo “Ice Tea” Thomas (who is also a co-host of the event), Laurence Gartel, Colombian visual artist Maicol Diaz and Jenny Perez, who has been featured in restaurants and boutiques across Miami. Internationally known recording artist Sean Paul will also be attending the event.
Your $30 donation/entrance fee gets you into all of that plus more! Hours d’oeuvres will be readily available as well as a cupcake bar that has been put together by Miami based 2 Girls And A Cupcake – and trust us, their cupcakes are to die for! (They also do killer custom orders for big events or special occasions so check them out! Support local small businesses!)
Tickets are available online now by CLICKING HERE or you can purchase them at the door.
About The Organizers
Lila Nikole
Lila Nikole is rapidly becoming a major force to be reckoned with in the fashion industry with her Lila Nikole Collection line that is taking the swimwear industry by storm. With clients such as Chris Brown, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Kim Kardashian, Will Smith, Keyshia Cole and Trey Songz as well as being featured in publications such as The Source, Ebony, Vibe and Fitness RX the Lila Nikole brand has an immensely bright future ahead. In 2012 Lila, along with her friend and business partner, Aisha Thalia, joined forces and created Project Save Imagination – A 501 C non-profit charity who’s initiative, in their own words, is “to keep the arts a vital part of children’s lives and education in order to inspire, empower and further enhance their imagination, creativity and ability of self-expression.” As Mark Twain said, “Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect” and we couldn’t agree more – after all the arts are a major force in what make individuals individuals. With a time of budget cuts and arts programs being cut from school curriculum’s we couldn’t have pictured a better time for Project Save Imagination to come into our community and help preserve ALL forms of art for the next generation.
Aisha Thalia
Irish, German and Trinidadian hailing from the Caribbean (which is already a deadly combination), Aisha Thalia is a model, actress, host – well, an ‘all of the above’ performer and personality. To add to her seemingly endless appeal, Aisha achieved her Master’s degree in Education by age 22 and has put her education to good use by volunteering with the youth of various communities. She is also an advocate for the fight against homelessness, preserving the arts and the fight to end hunger. She’s also lent her talents to the red carpet for Maxim Magazine and more recently Mercedes Benz Fashion Week doing on camera interviews with celebrities and designers.
