Sultan + Shepard at LIV Miami August 6th
LIV Miami: Most dance and EDM fans know a vast majority of the genres DJ’s hail from the Netherlands/Holland region, with some exceptions of course. There is one exception, however, that stands out more than most: Sultan + Shepard.
Sultan + Shepard, formerly known as Sultan & Ned Shepard, is comprised of Ossama Al Sarraf (Sultan), a Palestinian Christian and Ned Shepard. The two met after Sultan moved to Montreal, Canada and became submerged in the house music scene. As a matter of fact, Sultan was approached by Shepard and was given his demo. According to them, the very next day Sultan called Shepard and expresssed interest in working together. That was back in 2002. Fast forward to 2008 and the duo had formed Harem Records to release their music.
Sultan, who appeared in the 2004 documentary Being Osama produced by Tim Schwab and directed/produced by Mahmoud Kaabour, was one of six Montreal Arabic men who participated in the documentary. The film chronicled the men’s experiences post September 11th, 2001.
Since banding together Sultan + Shepard have exploded. Beatport even dubbed the Canadian-based duo the “kings of the progressive scene,” which is quite the endoresement from the powerhouse online song downloading service.
2011 through 2013 were very successful years for Sultan + Shepard, primarily due to their remixing skills. They were tasked to do remixes for Kaskade, Tiesto and Morgan Page among others. The duo also toured with Fedde Le Grand in March of 2013 on top of them renewing their highly coveted residency at XS Nightclub in Las Vegas.
