Sander Kleinenberg at Mansion Miami March 4th
Mansion Miami: With more than 2 decades under his belt in the music industry, Sander Kleinenberg certainly stands out amongst the masses. With literally thousands upon thousands of new “DJ’s” sprouting up each year it’s nice to see a familiar face that doesn’t sway with what is hip at the time and stays his own course. He’s like the Jay-Z of house music. He takes his time and perfects his sound before releasing a track or album. He wants, and expects, nothing but the best from himself.
43 year old Kleinenberg, who was born in the Netherlands, is certainly one of the “older” guys in the scene, but rather than taking away from his sound, it adds to it. A quick listen to many of his tracks shows that Kleinenberg was, and is, heavily influenced by the disco sound that bombarded airwaves in the 60’s and 70’s. Although he was just a toddler and little boy in the 70’s, it’s clear that sound resonates with him. But by the age of 15 Kleinenberg was actually DJ’ing at a bar and by age 21 he had released his first single “Bombay” on Belgian record label Wonka Beats.
In 2003 Sander founded his record label “Little Mountain Recordings” and in 2005 he began a monthly residency at Crobar in New York. By now Sander had not only mastered the art of DJ’ing, but had turned his focus to producing as well in an effort to give him that much more of a leg up. Sander is widely known for his live shows as he typically incorporates stunning visual effects that include videos to, as he says, “allow for more variety among DJ’s and performances.” Sander has worked with the likes of Daft Punk, Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson, lending more credence to what will undoubtedly be a long lasting legacy in the house and electronic music genres.
