STORY Nightclub Miami: Many people say that the house and electronic music scenes are a “young man’s game.” And when you take a second to look at all the talent out now, they tend to be on the younger side. Does that mean the “older” guys aren’t good anymore? Can’t pump up crowds anymore? Have lost their touch? If we were to answer that we’d say absolutely not. As a matter of fact, without the “older generation” of DJ’s and producers there wouldn’t be the new generation of talent that has helped mold this genre into the mainstream success that it is today. So stick that in your pipe and smoke it!
Plus there are many “older guys” still in the game today that would resent that statement anyway, such as David Guetta, everyones favorite French DJ. Guetta either doesn’t know about people making his age an issue or he doesn’t care about what some are saying about his age – either way, we applaud him. The 46 year old (47 on November 7th) is actually working on yet another studio album, which will be his sixth.
In a recent interview for The Wall Street Journal, Guetta said of his latest album “It’s probably his most personal album yet.” Keeping in mind that Guetta’s last album was a huge success, selling over 4 million copies and was also a Grammy nominee. With the first single from the album, titled “Lovers On the Sun” (featuring Sam Martin) and produced by Avicii already racking up over 30 million hits on Youtube, we’d say Guetta is off to a great start.
David Guetta also went on in that interview to say “I was a DJ even before house music. To this generation, that feels impossible, which is undoubtedly true to many of the new age listeners of house. In regards to his age and skills, Guetta went on to finish that interview by saying “You become a DJ because you’re a good producer. Some of those people are learning how to DJ in front of 10,000 people.” Which is why we say experience trumps all!
With his latest studio album in the works, Guetta is looking to capitalize and is currently embarked on a worldwide tour that will have taken him to Ibiza, Vegas, Atlanta, India and Cancun by the time it’s over.
