Community development is an essential part of modern day society – something many people may unknowingly take for granted. But for millions around the world, it’s a daily struggle – especially for those in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. Fortunately for many children and adults that call San Juan del Sur home, there is The Barrio Planta Project. As their website says, the Barrio Planta Project is “a community development, education and arts initiative that provides the children and adults from the low-income neighborhood, ‘La Planta’ in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua with free English classes. Through these classes, along with extra-curricular activities and community development projects, they are able to discover their skills, passions, confidence and pride for an overall more fulfilling, successful and rewarding life.” Something many of us can easily take for granted can seem like an impossible dream for others.

On Wednesday November 7th, The Barrio Planta Project is holding a fundraiser at local favorite hotspot, Tobacco Road on South Miami Avenue. The event officially commences at 7pm and ends at midnight, but with so much fun in one event we know the time is going to fly by for everyone there! Cost of entry is only $10, which is used to benefit the program. But $10 is a small price to pay for the amount of things going on in this event (plus it’s helping people in need in Nicaragua.) Kolabo, Kokay, Nature’s Fury and La Revol are just a few of the artists and bands that will be up on stage all night keeping your ears filled with music while you enjoy some pretty awesome drink specials.

To add to the fun, dozens of local Miami based businesses have pitched in and provided some awesome gifts and prizes for the raffle at the event. Raffle tickets are only $1 and can win you a slew of prizes like kite board lessons for 2 from Wind Addicts, yoga packages from Brickell Hot Yoga and The Yoga Institute of Miami all the way to gift cards to local restaurants and even a gift certificate for $300 at Lucky Tattoo in South Beach! And that’s just the beginning!
